about

It began as the grey-skied daydream of two London students, to cycle from the UK to Mali. After months of desert pedalling, warm encounters and dusty dawns, Mikaela and Imran arrived in Bamako where they befriended the musicians of Sèkè Chi. Before long they were rehearsing and jamming together, eating millet porridge on the backstreets of Bamako and topping up the petrol generator to keep the buzz of the amps alive.
‘tuning pegs and fishing line’ is a modern collaborative piece of work that dares to throw together sounds from Senegal, Mali and UK folk song. It is a celebration of musical friendship, the sharing and survival of oral tradition and the spirit of collaboration itself.
